WWE 2K Battlegrounds Full Details and Release Date

2K and Saber Interactive just dropped a ton of information on us in regards to the upcoming WWE 2K Battlegrounds. Even in writing this, I’m unsure where to begin! Announcing there will be over WWE 70 superstars past and present, this will surely be a fan favorite from all generations. Look forward to WWE biggest names, including Roman Reigns, Drew McIntyre and Randy Orton to legends such as The Undertaker, Mankind, Shawn Michaels and Yokozuna. Also, “unofficially” confirmed in the PlayStation Store is the Immortal Hulk Hogan! And let me tell you something brother! Pre-orders this year will grant you access to the Rated-R Superstar Edge. But wait, there’s so much more!

The new gameplay trailer shows off so much content you can’t help but watch this more than once or twice. Watching Reigns and Strowman swinging a motorcycle parts, the Phenom perform a chokeslam from hell, and even a masked goat taking swing at Nikki Bella and Sasha Banks, this is truly a highly anticipated experience that we haven’t seen since WWE All-Stars and WWF In Your House! At launch, with free updates to follow, Battlegrounds will include eight environments, many including interactive elements and melee weapons. In the trailer below, you’ll find Daniel Bryan soaring out of a helicopter and even Sasha Banks strumming the tunes of a guitar that we can only assume came from Elias. Saber Interactive will also be utilizing the “perfect” commentary team of WWE hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler and NXT’s Mauro Ranallo.

An Arcade Experience Like Never Before!

As for game modes there’s Exhibition, Online, King of the Battleground and Campaign. King of the Battleground appears to be an epic 8-player gauntlet match where 4 wrestlers will start in the ring while the others wait outside to enter.  Can you run the gauntlet and be the last man standing?  

Campaign mode will showcase 7 WWE hopefuls looking to show they have what it takes to earn a contract with WWE. Throughout the story, you’ll be under the guidance of the Texas Rattlesnake, Stone Cold Steve Austin and everyone’s favorite advocate Paul Heyman. It only makes you wonder, how far will you thrive until you face his Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar? As you progress, you will also unlock superstars and arenas, adding to your current roster and arenas.

What About Customization?

WWE 2K Battleground revealed today that players will be able to customize their own arenas to give each brawl a personal touch, as well as a Superstar Creator to build their own, unique WWE Superstar. But knowing our lovely WWE Content Creators, we will see an extension to the already massive roster days after release. It also worth mentioning, superstars such as Sasha Banks and SGT. Slaughter have multiple attires, unlockable by earning “Golden Bucks,” an in-game currency that will be used to also unlock Superstars and cosmetic items.

Golden Bucks are earned similar to VC in the WWE 2K series. Saber Interactive does allow VC purchases in NBA 2K Playgrounds so it may be an optional feature to unlock everything day one. Also, pre-ordering the Digital Deluxe Edition will credit players with 1100 Golden bucks, along with all versions of Stone Cold, The Rock and Ronda Rousey.

WWE 2K Battlegrounds will be available on September 18, 2020 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, PC and Google Stadia. Stay tuned for more details!
