Wizard of Legend Review – A Challenging Masterpiece

There’s’ a new dungeon crawler from Contigent99 and Humble with the style of Diablo and the difficulty of Dark Souls. Even through its difficulty, I can ensure you it’s an incredibly fun experience. That said, grab your cape and wand and get ready to become the newest Wizard of Legend.

In Wizard of Legend you begin as a “prospect” wizard, so to speak, inside of the Arcana Museum which is protected by its own magic. During your visit you’re given Arcana cards that grants you abilities in a tutorial form before actually utilizing each skill. Prepare yourself now, the challenge begins here.

Before leaving your character is sent to a world where you’ve received an invitation to potentially become one of the greatest wizards ever. You are greeted by a man in the mirror named Veres, a closet named Ward (where your wardrobe is available), Tomi is your skill book (allowing you to earn and equip abilities) and a storage chest name MiMi.

As Wizard of Legend allows one or two players, story of verses, you are able to fully customize your moves as there are plenty of items to unlock throughout your adventure. You can also earn and customize signature Arcana moves, which are considered a rare form and genuinely dealing the most damage.

Wizard of Legend requires you to master timing and precision when stringing combos as the enemies’ AI creates an unforgiving style of gameplay. So many times I thought I had the upper hand only to die in minutes.

And that’s only the beginning. Contingent99 has created an atmosphere that changes after each death. In other words, there isn’t a way to anticipate what’s to come if you die as the stage is completely randomized. It’s an out of the box experience that truly keeps you unaware of what awaits in each room.

Luckily between each level you are able to purchase health, relics and more to help you along the way. These are helpful as when using spells you will experience cooldowns, forcing you to dodge attacks and survive in-between time. You will ultimately find yourself, like in Bloodborne or Dark Souls, embracing the challenge or welcoming death
