The Walking Dead: The Final Season Episode 1 Review

Well, the moment that none of us looked forward to has decided to poke its head out any who, the Final Season of Telltale: The Walking Dead. It’s extremely unsettling not knowing how the courageous adventure will end with Clementine, or it the final season the great escape?

Clem in episode one “Done Running” literally takes a break from staying on the move and trusting a local group of teens that are all looking to survive as long as possible. With Clementine’s skills and the help of AJ, you both help to try and lead the camp of survivors to food, better safety while teaching and learning new ways to protect each other. But the more you hang around the more you learn some of their true colors.

AJ never truly grows fond of everyone and causes problems based on the early lessons taught by Clem. You have the choice of making him tough as nails or how to adapt and accept the friendliness, just remember some choices come with consequences. Before joining the group, you find yourself scavenging for food with AJ while instilling life lessons meant for survival.

As always, the action and QTE’s delivers, drawing the player in at key critical moments. From dropping logs for unique kills or sneaking through a horde of walkers, to even dealing with the unexpected within your camp, the pace is right at home in comparison to the previous Walking Dead stories. There’s one problem in episode one however, there’s not enough.

Maybe we’ve been spoiled over time. There’s usually so much to look forward to and action in every episode, I find myself looking forward to what awaits in every campaign. The final season unfortunately was more about dialogue and storytelling, something we see midseason as a filler. But similar to Life is Strange from DONTNOD, the cliffhanger left me in awe and looking forward to chapter two which luckily is just weeks after this introduction to the conclusion of The Walking Dead.

I can’t help but to say that Lee would be proud of what have become of Clementine. The bigger question that lies is how will you allow Clem to mold AJ throughout the Final Season as he’s grown fond of what you’ve done over the years.
