WWE 2K20 – Welcome to the Improved Universe Mode
Now when it comes to investing quite a bit of time in WWE 2K20 there’s no one that will more than myself, and maybe a few other content creators. For me, it’s all because my entire childhood was WWE, watching since ‘84 laying the smack down and giving a ton of friends and fans at the live shows a “Hell Yeah!” That in mind, playing the universe mode every year is an absolute must. We need that unique style of gameplay that tells a story when MyCAREER is over. In 2K20, 2K Sports and WWE Games are hoping to deliver just that.
Looking at the updates to come in WWE 2K20, I see reasons to celebrate and reasons to ask a few questions. First are the match limits, increasing from 7 to 9 and PPV Matches moving up to 14. Based on how WWE Pay-Per-Views are mixed brands as of late, this definitely make sense to offer more than the norm rather than 2K19’s Brand per month lay out. I think of shows like Clash of Champions where every title should be defended, or even house shows where so much talent is on the roster only a few ever get to shine.
The other opportunity left of the table comes from titles allowed on each show, increasing from 6 to 7. In WWE, based on WWE 2K19 shows in Universe Mode, there are actually 8 belts defended on each show today. While 2K list 2 MITB briefcases, Universal Championship, Women’s Championship, Raw Tag Team Championship and the Intercontinental Championship. There’s now the 24/7 Title that R-Truth has made infamous and the Women’s Tag Team Championship titles to be accounted.
While there will be 50 cutscenes added for female characters this year, perfect to go along with the build and excitement of embracing the women’s revolution, you have to wonder will these scenes play too often. When winning certain matches in WWE 2K19 certain post-match scenes appeared too much, losing its unique appeal of authenticity. Then there were other promised scenes that were never seen. Hopefully WWE Games get it right this year as they add an additional 25 cutscenes this year, specifically to Universe Mode.
