Mixcder HD901 Headset Review – Quality At An Affordable Price
Looking for the right headset that genuinely fits every need can at times be costly. Think headsets and you’re likely considering Sony, Beats by Dre, Astro, Bose or SteelSeries. But sometimes, those headsets are far out of reach of the current budget available. You still want some of those must have features but preferably a little cheaper than those recently mentioned. We get it. One thing we forget at times is that the brand doesn’t always matter. Jordan is the biggest shoe brand out and a household name to most consumers. However, that doesn’t make it the best of them all, just one of the highest in price.
That said, IRB was interested in reviewing the Mixcder HD901 headset. For its price range resting under $30 it offers quite a lot. A lightweight, 5oz Bluetooth headset promising up to 8 hours of battery life once charged to capacity. It also has a stereo HD sound set to deliver 40mm dynamic audio. You may ask yourself is this possible at the suggested price? Yes. PDP is a well-known brand for creating the most popular, cost efficient headset ever, the LVL3+ Afterglow Gaming Headset. Priced at $29.99.
Wait there’s one more thing the HD901 promises that typically only found in the more expensive brands, a TF card reader, supporting all the music you’d like to be stored on an SD and played all day long without the need of a Bluetooth connection. Does it all live up to its own hype or shy away into the shadows.
HD Mixcder Look and Feel
As advertised, the HD901 headset is extremely light and are quite comfortable to wear, even when wearing them around your neck to place on standby. I love the soft matte finish, giving the headset a sleek look and feel. Comparing to gaming headsets worn before the Mixcder felt like a feather, forgetting they were on a few times.
As you open the HD901, foldable and adjustable, it was slightly unsettling that each side needed to snap to stay open. Most headsets would have a screw mechanism that allows the ear cuffs to swivel open rather than click in place. Honestly, it can be overlooked as people will likely open and use them, not thinking of the process when opening them. What won’t be however is when you first open them, the headset (at least ours) comes zero percent charged. We gave them a few hours to work it’s magic and tested them afterwards. We also tested a second pair which did come with a short battery life.
Make Me a Believer
The audio that release from this little headset is insane! First thing we did was play a few videos that tested the surround sound and indeed you can pick up every distinct sound, regardless of direction. No, this isn’t a superhuman hearing headset from Turtle Beach, but I enjoyed them as if they were. After doing a few tests I switched over to a few songs from Tobe Nwigwe, played Old Town Road and enjoyed a bit of Imagine Dragons. I wanted to make sure I played tracks that pushed both quality and bass. Phenomenal! How are these selling as low as $29.99, and sometimes less than?
Now as a gamer I questioned how andif these would be at all compatible with gaming consoles; yes and no. Plugging the HD901 headset into the PlayStation has no connectivity. However, they do for the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. This is a surprise as I didn’t expect them to work or generate the same quality as on mobile devices and PC.
I placed a few songs onto a micro SD to check out how these would play, as well as to test out the wireless connection. This unfortunately kicked off my first issue. My headset did not turn via wireless, at all. Could it had been a trial and error? Luck of the draw? Not sure, but after trying to press the power button a few times the switch went all the way in and become inoperable, thus making it a wired headset.
Luckily, I was able to get another set and tested them once again, each track played like an iPod shuffling through my selections with no setbacks. This is perfect for going to gym or just looking to enjoy some of your favorite tunes uninterrupted, without pulling up an online playlist.
Durability
When we shop for electronics, one of the most important things we are hoping is that is don’t break in a week, a month, anytime soon. Quality truly matters in this department and we want the best even when funds may not promise such. Gratefully, this HD901 does! I tried twisting and dropping the headset and it’s all still working and fully functional.
As a gamer, a student or parent with children, anything can happen. Rest assure that the Mixcder will have your back throughout every event, every occasion.
Final Verdict
There’s no need to second guess if these might be the best headset for you. If you still are, know that the Mixcder HD901 comes at a price point worth giving a shot. On Amazon the price have fluctuated from $19.99 to $29.99, worth every penny either way.
