Just Dance 2020 Review – Please Don’t Stop the Music

There’s something about dancing that can put a smile on anyone’s face. Music can bring out a number of emotions for anyone and Ubisoft gets that more than anybody. Reaching all type of audiences with Just Dance, Just Dance Kids, Michael Jackson, Black Eyed Peas and Hip-Hop Dance Experience, the music never stopped and neither did the community. 10 years later, we’re all chanting please don’t stop the music.

Rhythm of the Night

There’s only one thing to look forward to when playing Just Dance 2020, having a blast. It doesn’t matter if your playing by yourself or with friends and family, Just Dance is sure to entertain. When you start off in Just Dance 2020, you’ll first need to create a name for yourself and choose an avatar. After that it’s time to groove to the music and “ride until you can’t no more!”

This year’s Just Dance has been simplified in many ways to cater to the player, offering three menus: Kids, Just Dance and All Stars. Kids will enjoy hearing some of their favorite songs, including Pinkfong’s Baby Shark. Just Dance gives you access to a unique catalog of music, also recommending songs based on your preference and style of gameplay. Want to get a workout in? Perfect! Just Dance 2020 has a ton of playlist available to help you get in a workout, including an opportunity to create your own, based on your favorite tracks to dance the calories away or be the DJ on the dance floor.

Another fun feature is World Dance Floor, allowing you to partake in a multiplayer session as you dance against boss families on random tracks. A mode that is fun, especially when considering dancing competitively. All Stars Mode is the one mode that will leave fans of the franchise wanting to give it all they got as you travel through the 10 planets (years) of Just Dance. Dance enthusiast will indeed enjoy playing through the story, per se, to unlock an exclusive track upon completion. Just keep your hopes high.

All You Gotta Do is Just Dance

Just Dance 2020 have the biggest library ever, including Just Dance Unlimited, an online subscription that offers over 500 additional songs to dance. What’s awesome about this feature is that it includes tracks from previous Just Dance titles like the Greatest Hits series, as well as new content throughout the year, making sure gamers of all ages have something to look forward to.

As this review was for the Nintendo Switch version, players have the option of using left or right Joy-Cons or syncing your mobile phone via Bluetooth, both working pleasantly well. Each song holds a difficulty meter ranging from easy to hard. Certain tracks also have challenges attached that can unlock a harder difficulty or special edition. When dancing, there are pictograms on the bottom right screen to help you anticipate upcoming moves and know what dance steps can help you land “perfects” and a 5-star performance.

A true highlight during the review, I loved how the second I played Baby Shark my 3 year old daughter came running to join me! As aforementioned this game is for anyone! This is just one example as to how the just Dance community continues to grow.

From Old Town Road, best of K-Pop, to Cardi B’s “I like it,” you’ll find yourself dancing nonstop while singing your favorite songs and sweating to the music. There’s never a dull moment when playing Just Dance, unless you hate the entire soundtrack, which is impossible as Ubisoft offers music for everyone!

As songs are completed you can collect Mojo, in-game currency earned by completing daily challenges and leveling up. Your points are spent in a gumball (Gashapon) machine, helping you unlock avatars, stickers and skins; up to 300 items to unlock at launch.

Boom, Bam, Pow

What makes Just Dance such eye candy is the vibrant colors it utilizes. The bright, flashy neon color is aesthetically pleasing, pulling the dancer out of the game and creating a silhouette to give gamers the imagination “that’s me!” The character costumes are always just as wacky, showing how much fun goes into development and consistently goes out of the way of showing others how welcoming Just Dance truly is.

While playing Just Dance 2020 allows mobile devices or joy-cons (Switch), if you ever consider going for the Just Dance World Cup, the PS4 or Xbox One camera may be your preferred option, taking advantage of full body tracking. However, if you’re just looking for a good time, any choice you make is a win.

Verdict

Just Dance is one game you can always look forward to bringing the family together. As an adult playing the game to watching my children run behind me to join in, it’s proof that Ubisoft made no mistake to keep the franchise moving. Just Dance 2020 is a sure must have.
