WWE 2K26 to Feature Four New Match Types and More

We all know just what time it is! It’s the season where we prepare to lay the smacketh down in a new addition of the WWE series. What’s great about this is the official addition of superstars, surprise DLC characters and new match types. Since Thursday, Mike Straw of Insider Gaming has kept an open ear for the WWE Universe and 2K Community on exactly what to expect thus far. And before we’ve see a glimpse of what to expect, it’s getting good!

News began to surface once Tyler Breeze and Xavier Woods teased the background of WWE 2K26. Then radio silent until the new of AAA wrestlers being scanned for the 2K26. To what capacity, we continue to wait for official details. Then there was Logan Paul who created a Vlog teasing the background for WWE 2K26 with the Attitude Era logo. And the cat slowly crept out as rumors began to flourish on who would be the WWE Cover Star athlete; CM Punk’s name became of the voice of the voiceless. Now news have not yet been confirmed by 2K of WWE Games, but Showcase has definitely been speculated as Windy City’s own, CM Punk.

Punk has had a rollercoaster of a career since returning to WWE, a place we steeped away from with no initial plans to return. And as the doors open, we was greeted by friends and enemies alike: the biggest of them all, Seth “Freakin’” Rollins. But his run led him through Cody Rhodes, Drew McIntyre, John Cena, Logan Paul, Bron Breaker and many more. In the end, and still today, the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Now why did I mention all of this? Because even before his return, Punk has had some of the greatest rivalries with the biggest stars of WWE, past and present. And we’ll relive those moments, including “What If’s” within the Showcase of the Second City Saint. Similar to the highlights of the Bloodline story, Punk’s highlights will be immortalized in 2K26, and oh how we hope it’s narrated once again by the Wise… I mean Oracle, Paul Heyman.

LET THERE BE MODES!

Today, Mike Straw highlighted 4 new modes that are Moreso being reintroduced to the WWE video game series: I Quit match, Inferno Match, Dumpster Match and 3 Stages of Hell. After Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre’s recent match on SmackDown, this will surely be a treat, not yet understanding the layers or opportunities within the match itself.  I Quit, one of the greatest match types, largely popular from Bret Hart, Beth Phoenix and the infamous Rock vs. Mankind match. This has been requested by the community for years and finally, it’s back!

Inferno Match was removed with no future in sight as 2K aimed to solely focus on the realism and authenticity of what we see today. No Kane and no Undertaker simply meant for gamers no Inferno match. But by surprise, as much as the return of intergender matches in 2K25, Inferno Matches have returned. In the words of AJ Lee’s theme song, let’s light it up! As for Dumpster Matches, one could imagine this will serve similar to the casket and ambulance match in WWE 2K25. Either way, it’s a major win for the 2K Universe, with more opportunities to create unique matches and build fresh content as creators.

EARLY FOCUS AROUND CREATIVITY

As we highlight content creation, there are also three additions to announced by Mike Straw. First, WWE 2K26 will increase its Create-A-Superstar slots from 100 to 200. This has been by far one of the biggest requests from creators and the community. Now if we just move the needle with image slots, it’s pure gold in front of us! 2nd is the WWE Draft returning to Universe Mode, a feature we haven’t seen in forever. Many continue to request the little things that could be optioned in like Draft, Show Intro and PLE Rivalries options to name a few. Well, that needle is moving in the right direction and the Draft is next step on the train to increase replayability into what is my personal favorite mode.

As we’ve seen WWE 2K releases each March, we can only hope that stays true. As much as the Royal Rumble season playing as the window to all news, trailers and reveals leading closer to the release of WWE 2K26.
