If you’re looking for some time to kill and some points to spend, make your way over to the Xbox Live Indie section of your 360. Dizzy Pixels has just released a new game called Voxel Runner. Dizzy Pixel is new to the developing scene on Xbox 360, but the game is actually worth its inexpensive price point.

The easiest way to describe Voxel Runner is to call it a more complex version of the Impossible Game, also available on XBLIG. Instead of a cube, you play a pixelated ninja that feels the urge to run through multiple obstacles that would make the “old school” fans grin from ear to ear.

indie 1These fast-paced, side scrolling titles are beginning to really make a bit of an impression in the gaming world. There are squares and triangles that you need to not only hurdle over, but slide under, leap over and when deemed necessary, block an attack.

You’re probably wondering, what is there to block? Well, the flying cubes that are trying to take you out! As the game progresses, you’ll have to block both low and mid-air breakable boxes as they fly your way. Later gameplay will have you sliding and jumping over contraptions, breaking through barricades and more.

Another interesting trickery in Voxel Runner would be these little pegs. Depending on the color they may create, take away or rearrange objects on the platform in an instant, taking you off your game.

The general concept of Voxel Runner is to challenge your brain. Stay ahead of the curve and plan ahead. Doing so will be quite rewarding. How? This game includes in-game achievements. It won’t necessarily add to your gamer score, but it’s satisfying to know you do earn “something” for your time.

At the extremely low, and average price of 80 Microsoft Points it’s definitely worth a shot. Watching the trailer may have you believing it’s simple. I urge you to give this XBLIG a shot and see if you can make it to the end. Voxel Runner will truly make you learn quick and think fast.
