Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Left 4 Dead and Portal, has recently announced Steam Greenlight, a new platform feature that enlists the community’s help in selecting some of the next games to be released on Steam.
Steam Greenlight will allow developers and publishers to post information and media about their game in an effort to convince the Community that their game should be released on Steam. Greenlight piggybacks on the Steam Workshop’s flexible system, which organizes content and lets customers rate and leave feedback.
This new service is probably the biggest dream of all indie game developers come true. The new amount of exposure and fair judgement just went through the ceiling. Games wont be limited to a small panel of judges any longer as the community gets a shot at giving their say about a game. In times past, other services such as Desura and Zodiac were the only go-to place for indie game developers. It was often times hard to pass Valve’s screening and scrutiny. Valve is quite literally putting the decisions into community hands helps place what gamers are wanting to play and wanting to see in the steam store. Who better yet to ask then your consumers, right Valve?
Steam Greenlight will be released August 30.
