The Darwin Project is an interesting hybrid of the, now hot, battle-royale genre with a mix of the predecessor mainstream genre, crafting-survival. It looks a lot like Epic Game’s Fornite, which we know is now hot in the charts for its battle-royale mode but The Darwin Project does share the same engine (UE4) and of course, an augmented vision of what that game originally set out to be.
Basically as its been described by those who’ve played the closed alpha, The Darwin Project is very much a “Hunger Games” simulator, when combining great elements from both of the previously stated genres. The initial player count is VERY slim in the current alpha when compared to PUBG or Fortnite (with a limit of 10) but the world is also less massive in size. This isn’t a bad thing, as funneling people together so you encounter each other is a streamlined experience and will always keep you on your toes.
As far as crafting elements go, you will NEED to craft to survive whereas Fortnite‘s can be easily ignored if you play the rest right. In the alpha you are faced with extreme cold and if you want to craft your own arrows and ammunition, you will need to chop down trees or find hidden loot boxes in the map. Certain things can buff your character to get a leg up on the other players and you can even lay traps for people to fall prey to. When you think about it, The Darwin Project has a very interesting premise and a lot of room to grow with.
IRBGamer was provided with a closed alpha invitation on Steam and we can confirm that this game is definitely one you should keep your eye on!
