Tired of getting level zero adds from random people? Well steam has rolled out limited accounts for new users to help combat spammers and phishers on their systems.
To protect their loyal customers from what I like to refer to as “assholes,” Steam has made it so new users must unlock community privileges like adding other players, or opening group chats, to those who have spent at east $5 on their account. Meaning, unless these scammers invest $5 into their new account, they wont be getting anywhere.
For those legitimate players, they can still be added by others, they just can’t send out invites until they buy $5 or more of a game. This limit doesn’t count gifts from other players, and doesn’t count retail games unlocked through steam, but it does count the content of your steam wallet. So if you have a$3 game in your library, and $2 and change in your steam wallet, you unlock the full user account features.
What do you think? Will this help fend of scammers? To find more information about limited accounts, check out their steam FAQ page.
