In recent news from Sega regarding the Sonic franchise, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed was announced for the Xbox 360 PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo 3DS, and PC (digital download) for a late release this year. The mechanics of the previous game are expected to make a return with new additions such as characters now having their own unique transforming vehicles. Racing Transformed sleights plus a familiar cast including characters like Sonic the Hedgehog, Dr Eggman and AiAi but also sports newcomers such as Gilius Thunderhead of Golden Axe and Vyse of Skies of Arcadia. While new characters are great, Sega really focused on revealing what gameplay we needed to expect.
In Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, depending upon the terrain, the vehicles will transform and adapt to changes in environment. Some examples were given of the new dynamic course system and they sounded very promising. When traveling the Super Monkey Ball’s Temple Trouble track road it will eventually fall away beneath you transforming your car into a boat to travel the rivers and rapids. In the Panzer Dragoon themed track, Dragon Canyon, you will be taken into the sky with complete control of your plane. This will allow you to do barrel rolls and flight maneuvers before eventually transforming back into your car form. All of this combined with a new reward system for dangerous and risky driving, makes this game looks to be very promising. We can only hope that it delivers a worthwhile experience in the end.
