Have you ever found yourself wanting to rob a bank vault dressed up with an over-sized phony baloney Richard Nixon mask and a two-piece suit? No? Stop lying to yourself! We know you’ve had that fantasy ever since Forest Gump made it to the big silver screen! On a somewhat related note, you can now do just that with PlayStack’s Snipers VS Thieves (albeit only in your digital fantasy, you crazy rascal).
Snipers VS Thieves is a free to play mobile game available on the App Store and Google Play Store, that has a simple but interesting premise. There are two ways to play this game and you have the option right at the start screen; become a Sniper or become a thief. At the heart its really that simple but its a nice take on the “cat and mouse / cops and robbers” scenario. When you choose to become a thief, you will be matched up with randoms or even given the option to match up with friends but your job is to rob the sniper’s bank and make a quick escape. Effectively its a 1 V 5 game for each match but there is a lot of depth and balancing that makes it fun to play either side.
Playing this role is the simplest of the game but possibly the most adrenaline inducing. Controlling the sniper could not have translated better for a mobile game. You can two finger drag to zoom in, slide the screen to take aim, and tap to shoot. The thieves can take cover so its not just shooting fish in a barrel. You will need a keen eye and good aim to nail those pesky thieves (but you can purchase traps and ammo for help if you’re having hard time)!
If you’re not all into being a lone-wolf… the thief role is quite opposite from the sniper and more dynamic. Your job is to grab the money and escape so you will need to go cover to cover to make it to the getaway van. Thieves run on a system of stamina and you can’t simply run forever (nor would that really be a good idea). The stamina can also be used to make quick roll maneuvers that will throw the sniper off and push you ahead just that little bit. Staying behind cover or being bold and sticking yourself out to taunt the sniper will gain you your stamina back (its a nice trade off of risk vs reward and game-play).
The thieves have decoys, health potions, body armor, and such that can be bought or received out of crates that can be deployed to help you with your mad dash. These are cool and all but the real fun comes with playing among friends and coordinating a plan that will trick the sniper and let most (if not all) escape unscathed! If one of you happen to get shot and kill over, your loot becomes a free-for-all for your team-mates. If they can pick it up, they can score it. When you come to think of it, this game is like your own personal mini-sized Payday 2 (minus all the M rated baggage that is).
No secrets here but you already know that Snipers VS Thieves is free to play. “So what is the catch”, you may ask. Sniper VS Thieves uses a “waiting” mechanic to bide you over and akin to other mobile games like Dungeon Keeper (but thankfully not as slimy). When you win a match on either faction you are rewarded a case and you will have to wait the full time its gives you before it will open. You can bypass the wait by using the in-game currency (which you buy with real money) to unlock them instantly if you want.
Snipers VS Thieves also features a “Black Market” which basically translates to a digital goods store that offers direct purchase of specific gear and even cool masks. This is a good balance by not relying on randomization and the enticement to buy only RNG “suitcases” (as the game calls it’s loot boxes). You get to buy hilarious mask like Ronald Reagan’s face and even some funky holiday themed masks that come around only for a season (so there is that for those who love special and unique items). Surprisingly its not as intrusive as other games and for a game that cost $0 and offers loads of game-play hours in return, a few dollars here and there is certainly worth that amount of enjoyment, right?
Download Snipers VS Thieves today and have a blast with your friends/family. You’ll wonder where all your time went!
