Those who didn’t get a chance to play the Dragon’s Dogma exclusive RE6 demo are going to be in for a real treat when they fire up this new demo. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if some Dragon’s Dogma patrons are going to get mad. This new demo completely wipes the floor with the exclusive demo that was released a while back. The action feels more co-op centered and more fresh. Capcom really went the way of releasing a completely different demo to the public. After all, how cheap would it have been if it was the same thing we saw not too long back?
Leon and Helena’s chapter is just as dark as before and really intense with the ambiance and horror feel. This is the way Resident Evil was meant to be. Endless amounts of zombies will flood the room you stand in and crowd the only exits out. You will rush through a blood thirsty mob in a school building full of chaos. It’s a great melding of elements and pure fun to play. Don’t get me wrong however, this is by no means the same experience you get from Chris or Jake’s side of things. Leon’s part is top notch.
Chris and Piers’ chapter comes in more of your average third person cover shooter. Every bad guy has a gun and your health actually recovers over time if you don’t deplete the bars completely. Calling this the “Call of Duty” side of the game would probably be appropriate, but not entirely. It feels a lot like what Resident Evil 5 was and you get good monster fights to boot. This probably won’t be everyone’s top campaign but it serves its own purpose.
Jake and Sherry’s part is a little melding of elements and the first two mentioned chapters. You have your great action sequences but you also get some creepy monsters to battle as well. Jake is loaded with a large arsenal of weapons and its really fun testing each gun out. You can use your bare-fists, a magnum revolver, assault rifle, and even a sniper rifle. Yeah, Jake is loaded. You even get a part where you are split up and one member of the team has to cover the other from above. It’s a nice mix and definitely an interesting play.
This whole demo lasted for a good while. I was impressed with how long this one turned out to be. Each section gives you a nice taste of the game and the variety’s there-in. My impression when putting my controller down was nothing short of great. Resident Evil 6 seems to have a sprinkling of all games in Resident Evil’s past and it just might turn out to be the biggest success in the franchise’s history. Give it a download right now and play it for yourself. Grab a buddy to enhance the experience!
