PS4’s Forza Killer Takes An Arrow To The Knee

driveclub

Correct me if I’m wrong here. I’ve tried putting our Drive Club review on the sidelines for a bit for multiple reasons that could destroy the credibility of the game. I had the opportunity to play Drive Club about a month back and it was pretty solid. Now mind you it wasn’t the final build.

But now PlayStation Plus users received a broken promise and a ten dollar discount, and owners of the full game can barely get online. Developers have reached out explain that the game is surpassing stress levels, an issue you would assume handled after being pushed back almost an entire year. They did mention to fans over Twitter “We’re testing a server update now. Expect improvements before & over the weekend.”

I think Drive Club sped off too fast for itself and drifted into a pile of quicksand. And the overall experience for so many is a testament to just that. Don’t get me wrong you can enjoy the game offline and take note of its beauty.

Wasn’t this supposed to be the “PS4’s Forza Killer?” And that’s not a shot at our friends over at VG247, that’s a statement that Sony and Drive Club quoted, ultimately meaning your title now needs to embody this message. But for now, The Club is looking a bit more like The Crew.

With that said, it’s time to soon present the moment of truth. When a game usually launches this way, it soon becomes an afterthought to consumers. But the PlayStation Plus promise is a piercing in the heart of many that looked forward to October 7th.

That ten dollar offer would’ve been a very smart move to transition Plus members to the full version. But when the game is launching close to horrific with enormous server issues, especially when that’s a keynote for Drive Club, it’s an embarrassing first impression. That old motto slow and steady wins the race is not going to work on this one, sorry.
