The Portal DLC slated to be released next tuesday promises hours of testing fun. For those interested in getting out of the usual test chambers and trying out oher puzzles there is no end to the user-generated test chambers. Created by community members, the test chambers are somtimes really simple, but suprinsingly mind jogging. Creating a test chamber couldn’t be simpler either.
The “Perpetual Testing Initiative” allows players to easily create, share, and play Portal 2 puzzles. The Initiative comes with a simplified puzzle maker that allows that creation of mind-bending puzzles without ever leaving the game.
The puzzle maker can directly publish maps to the Steam Workshop where users can browse, vote on, and select to play them. Selected puzzles will automatically be downloaded and installed inside Portal 2.
I had a chance to play the Testing Initiative DLC and it was actually a lot better than I thought it would be. No word yet on whether these test chambers will allow co-op play, but that doesn’t make this DLC any less inviting. The puzzle maker is very intuitive and simple to use and while it takes a while to figure out how to place things and where things are located, it quickly turns from a “I don’t know what I’m doing here,” to a “How high can I get this ceiling without bumping into that laser beam while still allowing that light beam to work so I can grab this ball as it drops.”
