PES 2015 Demo Impression – Things That Make You Go Hmmmm!

pes2015

Alright so now it’s time to once again talk football, but not the American tradition. Konami is preparing gamers to get ready for the new installment of Pro Evolution Soccer. “The question on the table is if this game is ready for the crowd.

I played PES 2015 on the Xbox One and I have to say in honesty it was quite a mixed experience for me. After reviewing PES 2014 last year on the PlayStation 3 I expected better rolling over to the next-gen platform and I truly couldn’t smile on the inside knowing the demo drew me in and shoved me away at the same time.

I appreciated having the opportunity to play full games with a handful of teams options. By allowing me to fully tackle Messi as I chose the Real Madrid (or any other team, rivaling the FIFA cover athlete) it almost gave me the impression of the full game.

The gameplay wasn’t horrible either. In fact, it was much better than 2014. The A.I. didn’t seem quite as dumbfounded as PES 2014’s  making the overall game more challenging, yet not as difficult as FIFA 15. Also with PES 2015 utilizing the Fox Engine players looks as real as it gets, shining in comparison to EA Sports. In a nutshell, texture and players looked phenomenal. But it kind of stopped there.

Call me picky if you’d like, but I pay close attention to details; the field is where the action is, and it’s well presented in PES, but everything else?

On both sides of the goal are two billboards in the demo, billboards that the soccer ball as well as players can completely run through. Then there was the crowd. The fans looked as if they were rehashed from some old NES or SEGA platform. Double Dribble maybe? Not one person in the crowd was recognizable as male or female.

Now I get it, some of you may complain that you’re not paying $60 to look at the fans, but you’re also not looking at paying that dollar amount for a less than stellar production. I truly hope by November Konami has completed PES’s much needed surgery.
