NBA 2K13 Hands-On Impression

2K Sports was in attendance at the GameStop Expo with NBA 2K13. In the demo was the most awesome fantasy game that could ever be imagined, the 1992 Dream Team vs. 2012 Dream Team.   Yes, the inevitable matchup most NBA diehards can’t wait to play themselves was put to work in the 2k booths.

Gameplay right off felt new. Indeed, it’s 2K and much hardly changes unless it is the game modes and how they’re implemented. Graphics weren’t anything to cheer over, but knowing that 2K is clearly in beta stages, the final look should be quite intriguing.

The Control Stick concept works well, though take a bit of time to get used to. The right analogue now supports your dribbling, rather than being the go-to stick for those clutch shots. There’s also bounce passes that’s been added into 2K13. Holding the left bumper and tapping your pass button will show off the new pass system.

The most important changes to NBA 2K13 are the animations. I must stress, when passing the ball from Jordan to Bird or any other teammate, their ball handling didn’t feel the same. I performed crossovers that only Jordan in his prime could muster. No other player on the Dream Team performed that way, instead they played in a fashion that match their original play styles.

NBA 2K13 feels evenly as fluid on defense ,as it does on offense; the key principle is responsiveness. As a defender and/or on offense, the players map much better to the controls that you, the user, attempts to execute.

With as little as a one five-minute quarter to quench your thirst, I can promise you revolutionary changes to the game that makes you agree, it’s worth my $60 bucks.

Scottie Pippen Now Included!

Now, to quickly touch on the worse part of NBA 2K. We asked what may come of the servers for NBA 2K13. The response is that the developers are working to try to create a better online experience. To me, it kind of meant that 2K Sports may let gamers down, yet again, on an issue that has been the downside of NBA 2K for years.

Either way, NBA 2K13 is looking to be a game changer.  Minor changes that are adapting the series, are also creating a lasting impression. As Michael Jordan shot a last second three pointer to tie the game, you felt his level of excitement at the end. One quarter? Really? Guess I’m just looking forward to October 2nd.
