Medal of Honor Warfighter, whose single player is supposedly inspired by the personal stories of the developers when they were deployed over sees, released an open beta for all to play on Xbox Live yesterday. I spent a few rounds playing this game and looking at all it had to offer and all that needed to be fixed.
Medal of Honor Warfighters is an interesting meld between the two games that have been battling it out for years. While playing this game I could see parts of Call of Duty and Battlefield intertwined into its game mechanics. You can spawn on players, much like in battlefield, and you can also chose classes and rank up those classes the more you play. The level designs are much more like Call of Duty, however, with close quarters and multiple entry ways.
So far, the multiplayer is fun. It’s a little trying as there seems to be twenty million things going on at once but once you adopt a tactic everything moves swimmingly.
Just like in Battlefield 3, you get points to resupplying your teammates, completing objectives, giving your teammate a safe place to spawn, killing enemies, avenging your teammate’s deaths, the list goes on. Similarly, just like in call of duty you can customize your gun with paint jobs by unlocking points as you level.
So far the only level I’ve seen played is one level where the objective switches between defending and planting a bomb.
The game does have its downside though, spawns can be tricky and often I find myself spawning directly in front of an enemy, resulting in my immediate demise. Other times I spawn on a buddy, turn the corner and there is a gun in my face. Also not fun.
Still, Warfighter is promising. The only thing I think that I absolutely don’t understand and can’t get myself to enjoy, is that when logging in on Xbox, the origin login screen pops up. That’s right, somehow EA got Origin onto your Xbox and is making you sign in through Origin. What is the world coming to.
