Valve, creators of Left 4 dead 2 and the Half Life series, recently announced an update to their popular free-to-play game, Team Fortress 2. Titled Mann vs. Machine, the update features a co-operative game where up to six players “wage a desperate battle to stop a lethal horde of robots” from deploying a bomb in one of Mann Co.’s many strongholds. Surviving all the waves in any of a variety of missions, will give you a chance to earn incredible loot.
Gray Mann, the company behind the evil robots, has built an unstoppable automaton army with a single purpose: to destroy all things Mann Co. To help the regular robots whose mission is to deploy the bomb, a small cadre of special robots exist with the sole purpose of stopping you from stopping them. These special robots include a scout with a baseball bat that stuns you, two snipers; one that shoots quick arrows with a deadly accuracy and one that shoots jarate coated bullets, two medics; one that can’t uber and one that uber’s like mad, a charging demoman, and a heavy with boxing gloves; beware though as these heavies travel in packs.
“Take down bomb-carrying robots quickly, because the longer they’re holding one, the more powerful they get. Worse yet, these upgrades stack.”
The update also features Giant robots; covered in thick, damage absorbing armor, and a “Sentry Buster” which is essentially a bomb with legs. It detects any sentry that is doing damage to the robot horde and will charge towards the sentry and explode. It doesn’t change its direction, however, so once its sights are locked on, it can’t change direction. So a quick-thinking and on guard engineer can easily move his or her equipment out of harms range if they are paying attention.
Available August 15th, 2012, Mann vs. Machine promises to re-invigorate an already popular community. Check out the trailer for its launch below:
