Magic fans will be happy to know that the fourth installment, Magic: The Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers 2014, of the Magic series is now available for download via the xbox live market.
In the online versions of the Magic game you will follow the same rules as if you were playing with your actual cards. The basic concept of the Magic card game is really quite simple. You play an opponent and attempt to defeat them by lowering their life from 20 down to zero.
In this new edition players will get to experience some new features while they partner up with Chandra Nalaar in an attempt to track down a Planeswalker foe. You will also have the ability to play online multiplayer with up to 4 players. Not to mention the ability to create your own decks and track your stats.
Never played Magic: The Gathering before? Well that is okay because, in Magic: The Gathering –Duals of the Planeswalkers 2014, the game kicks off asking you how much Magic experience you have! If you have never played a Magic game in your life you will be able to do a tutorial which teaches you how to play.
Once you finish the tutorial you can begin the campaign. In the campaign you would find yourself faced against 25 different opponents of increasing difficulty and changing decks. With these ever changing foes and decks you will find yourself forced to experiment with your very own deck. Discovering which cards are better suited up against other cards. And this continues even more as you play because with each chapter you complete the more decks and cards you unlock.
When it comes to graphics and audio, it is very basic and straight forward. Magic is after all a simple card game on your consoles. So when you consider what it is, an arcade title of a popular card game, the graphics and audio are both excellent. You basically have a table top view of the card game, so great graphics are not absolutely necessary. Although when it comes to the chapter introductions the graphics do not disappoint.
So what is new in the series you ask? Well in Duels of the Planeswalkers you will not only have the ability to create your own decks, but your own “SEALED” decks. When you play the sealed deck campaign you will have more options then ever before. You will be able to open many booster packs and build the deck as you like. You will also notice that your deck gets graded. This allows you to actually see how good your hand is as you build it, so you can make different changes to improve the grade of your deck.
You will also see Silver creature types. Each of these creatures has its own ability and will also grant it to all your other Silver creatures that are currently in play on the board.
Overall Magic: The Gathering – The Duels of the Planeswalkers 2014 is a great addition to the Magic series. And although it isn’t the actual real life cards in your hands, it offers so much more. In the online versions of the Magic game you have endless amounts of people you can go head to head against. Which means many more competitors and more varieties of decks, keeping you busy longer.
