Madden NFL 13 is The Big Bad Wolf!

April 25 will be remembered as a super exciting day for both gamers and NFL fans. For one,  after nearly 20 million votes going in the books for him, Calvin Johnson of the Detrioit Lions was named the cover vote for Madden NFL 13. 2nd is probably the most important part of it all, official announcements addressing Madden NFL 13 and hand-on previews.

EA Sports always give me the goose bumps with how they manage to up the ante in the future installments, just when you think they’ve done it all. I have to address that for 2011, in my opinion, NCAA Football 12 was better than big brother Madden NFL 12.  One of the most noticeable factors, was the A.I.

NCAA’s A.I. was much more developed than Madden’s as it supported better reading skills across the field, whether playing offense or defense. Granted, no matter the difficulty setting, the A.I. was able to adapt to your game play. In the end, it still didn’t feel up to par with NCAA Football 12.

However, for Madden NFL 13, you will now receive that same level of realism. Your opponent will not allow a handful of free passes as they’ve been improved at reading the field and reacting to your plays a lot better. More animations take place as well, whether running down field, or going in for the tackles, again, plenty of realism is involved.

While touching on the field action, now would be the best time to discuss Motion Blur. Though it’s beautiful looking at players run across the field, one thing has been missing. And who better than EA to catch it and improve the Madden experience. Motion blur is the visual detail from the average camera view. When players are running down the field, cameras no longer have this “perfect” image. It’s more realistic and shows off the blurriness from a player getting tackled or moving toward the end zone.

Motion Blur At Its Finest

Other than the enhanced graphics is the offensive side as QB. There are a few changes, but none as note-worthy as the Pass-Ready System. If you’re a seasoned Madden NFL player, you probably won’t see it as a big whoop! But the pass-ready system gives you the better play options when looking down the field. After choosing you play and hiking the ball, your players will run in their formation. When a player has a good field position, his corresponding pass button will light up over his head, thus giving you the best play decisions possible.

Through all of the upcoming gameplay, we’ll no longer hear the commentary of Gus Johnson and Chris Collinsworth. Instead, EA Sports has moved to the CBS commentators, Phil Simms and Jim Nantz, who have real-life history working together to create and call smooth play action. The entire presentation looks CBS related, including tickers and since quite some time, Madden NFL 13 shows visual footage of the commentators during presentations.

Graphics are looking as crisp as ever, and the Motion Blur definitely adds that extra “oomph” to this installment. Madden NFL 13 looks this year to “TRULY” defy their motto from last year, True to the Game. So far, it really is! Four months out from release and Madden NFL 13 looks ready! Plenty of additional information will be released over the coming weeks, which we’ll be all over.

Also a great mention, If you noticed on this year’s XBOX 360 cover art, you see something that’s been discussed for years now, the integration of Madden NFL becoming compatible with the Kinect Sensor. Plenty of questions have already began to arise as will it play more along the lines of Motion Sports or have its own unique feel? Only time will tell.

Madden NFL 13 releases August 28th for XBOX 360, Kinect,  PlayStation 3, Wii and PS Vita (PlayStation Vita).

textCant wait for August 28th! Madden 12 was pretty good (especially with the enhanced AI) but 13 looks so much better. Too bad John doesn’t commentate for any of these games anymore. At least Phil Simms is an improvement over the overly-sarcastic Colinsworth! 😉

  • […] Just to mix things up a bit, IRB Gamer is wanting to take the time to hear from you. We’ll be writing up a Demo Impression soon for Madden NFL 13, but as I said before, “It’s the big, bad wolf!” […]
