Twisted pixel has done it again with its newest release, LocoCycle. LocoCycle is an over the top crazy arcade title that put players not in the front seat, but as the front seat. That’s right you play as the motorcycle not Pablo. In an unexpected twist you not only drive the motorcycle but you are the motorcycle, literally.
In LocoCycle players take on the role of the motorcycle called IRIS. IRIS is a super advanced motorcycle that has become self-aware and is on mission to gain her freedom. In the process IRIS has managed to bring along a friend. Pablo has no choice and has been ‘dragged’ along for the ride, by the leg of his pants, literally.
LocoCycle is very basic and straight forward. And even though it provides you with cues to teach you the moves as you play through the game it isn’t really needed. You could get by simply by button mashing. As you control the motorcycle you launch yourself through the air to attack floating enemies. The big thing here is your use of Pablo. Pablo is basically your whipping boy. You throw him at the enemies and spin him around to attack and knock your enemies down. Although this is a new concept and is oddly funny it gets boring and repetitive extremely fast.
Graphically speaking LocoCycle is not bad. When you think about it it’s actually pretty good considering it is an arcade title. I will admit I did have higher expectations as I was playing it on my Xbox One, but lets be honest here. It is still an arcade title and it is also available for the Xbox 360. Having these expectations for games available on the new consoles as well as the old consoles is not realistic. Most of these titles were made with our older systems in mind. They also do provide some pretty awesome “Movie like” cut scenes. And I mean this literally. Not only do you get to play a game but you get to watch live action cut scenes between chapters.
Over all LocoCycle is a huge let down, especially when having Next Gen expectations in mind. There’s no skill to this title. It is an over the top button mashing title that although funny gets boring fast and is extremely repetitive. And if you are in anyway sensitive to language, politics, religion or racial views this title may be taken the wrong way. In my opinion this is the worst title I have played for the next generation consoles and wouldn’t consider paying $10 let alone the $19.99 it is listed for.
