inXile has just announced their intent to partner with Obsidian to work on Wasteland 2. This partnership will become reality if the Kickstarter fund reaches 2.1 million dollars; as of right now the project has just over 1.6 million behind it. Chris Avellone; Obsidian’s Chief Creative Officer, has said he will be working directly with inXile to bring the world of Wasteland, one of his favorite RPGs ever, together. Chris Avellone has a history with Obsidian dating all the way back to Black Isle studios and Fallout 1 and 2.
Brian Fargo, of inXile, says that working with Obsidian on Wasteland 2 will allow him and his team, to focus more energy on the game. He goes on to say “Obsidian has an incredible library of story, dialog and design tools that they have used to create hits like Neverwinter Nights 2, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, and of course, Fallout: New Vegas.” He also says that the tools that Obsidian is able to offer will lead to a more efficient development cycle on Wasteland 2.
Wasteland 2’s Kickstarter only has 17 days left to hit the magic number of 2.1 million. When time runs out the Kickstarter funding will end and the money donated will go towards the making of Wasteland 2. As of right now Wasteland 2 has over 33,000 backers and has raised around 1.65 million dollars. inXile has announced that Wasteland 2 will be coming out on PC as well as Mac and Linux.
inXile has also announced a way for fans to donate to the cause even if they are in a country where using Kickstarter is not possible. Faro says that they have set up donations through PayPal through the Wasteland website. Fargo mentions that their biggest fans come from places like Germany and Eastern Europe which are just some of the places that cannot use Kickstarter.
