You have the option of ordering either the regular edition for 10$ or the deluxe edition for $30. With the deluxe edition, you get a Gateways mouse mat, signed A2 poster of the map and a Smudged Cat Games pen! Of course all in time for the games release on June 22nd, 2012.
For those of you who don’t know, Gateways is a 2D platform style game set in a lab. Ed, an inventor, needs your help escaping the lab following an outbreak of multiple of his experiments. Similar to Portal, the gateway guns allow you to place two “gateways” on the floors, walls and ceilings, allowing you to pass from one to the other. The difference however is that in Gateways, as you make your way through the levels, you will be introduced to different types of gateway guns all with different effects. One gun allows you to change size; either becoming bigger or smaller depending on the way you pass through, another gun allows time travel; you can either go forward in time or back encountering different versions of yourself, and finally one gun manipulates gravity; allowing you to walk on walls and even ceilings.
The game is set up on a single map with challenges and puzzles. Your job is to acquire power ups in order to open up more of the map. Opening more of the map means more powers ups and secrets. You will also have a torch to help you see dark area’s of the map and a mirror to deflect those pesky lasers. If puzzles aren’t your thing there is a “help system” to help you on your way. Each puzzle has a help point where you can use your power orbs to find out if the puzzle can be solved. If the puzzle is solvable but you are stumped then you can spend more of your power orbs to figure out the solution.
