Xbox started off today’s E3 event with Bonnie Ross, Studio Head of 343 Industries giving audiences and fans the very first look at Halo 5: Guardians campaign gameplay. The live demo was through the eyes of Spartan Locke, whom we’ve seen in previous trailers and promos, as he lead a team of Spartans named Tanaka, Vale, and Buck, who you may remember from Halo 3: ODST.
Taking place in what seems to be a Covenant city, the squad is looking for the Master Chief with the help of the Arbiter. While tracking the Chief, Covenant soldiers laid on the floor, near death, as what seems to be the Chief’s doing, or the Arbiter’s handiwork in destroying the Covenant. It isn’t long before we meet up with the Prometheans from Halo 4 attack our protagonists, and where the demo ends with a Promethean captain grabbing hold of Agent Locke.
This level is the first in the Halo series where players will venture on a Covenant planet and I got really excited to witness for the first time the strangely beautiful and alien (he he he) architecture. The inclusion of squad commands is a first as well, as A.I. squadmates can focus fire on targets highlighted.
At the end of the segment, Josh Holmes, Executive Producer of 343 Industries, then took the stage and we were introduced to a brand new game mode that pits player vs. player vs. A.I. covenant and Promethean enemies named “Warzone”. Large maps boasted to be four times bigger than any map that came before where players go against each other while also fending of wave of enemies looks to be the most hectic battle royal of fun that will keep players glued to their seat, come October 23rd.
