Gateways is a 2D Platformer from developer Smudged Cat Games in which the player assumes the role of an inventor called Ed. You are trying to help him escape his lab after an outbreak of most of creative experiments. At first glance you might say that it’s just a rip off of Portal. Once you dig deeper though you will see that Smudged Cat Games took a much more unique approach by including multiple Gateway guns.
After the player gets the normal Gateway gun, which simply makes a gateway, the player unlocks the Variant gun. The Variant gun makes Ed either twice his size or half his size depending on the Gateway you enter. After those are achieved you can unlock yet another variant which not only connect to another location but also to another time. This is were Ed will encounter an earlier version of himself. The last variant of the Gateway gun that can be unlocked manipulates gravity allowing Ed to walk on walls and ceilings.
Along with the guns Ed will be equipped with a torch and a mirror. The torch is used to light up darker portions of the map and the mirror is used to deflect lasers. Honestly I was a big Portal fan and this should be amazing. Taking this unique approach of adding multiple gun types also adds another level of difficulty that is unimaginable. While there is no release date as of yet we will be sure to update you as soon as it is announced.
For now you can take a look over the video below and let us know what you think. Gateway will be released for both PC and Xbox 360.
