A trailer for a new game Binary Domain, which is being developed by Yakuza Studio, is going to be a squad-based third-person shooter. None of this is apparent while watching the trailer. The trailer starts off with a man blubbering about how he was treated by a man who he is focusing all his attention on. He is bleeding and being warned by robot security to drop his weapon. Of course he obliges but then proceeds to pull a grenade out and rips part of his face off revealing that he is part robot.
The trailer then goes to a board room with military and political higher ups discussing why and how this robot externally indistinguishable from a human came to be. It is made aware that only two people are capable of making such a creation, Mr. Bergen and Dr. Yoji Amada. Bergen works for the United Sates government and runs Bergen Corporation, not much is shown in the trailer about the relationship between the two.
Amada the only other option, has not been seen in over 40 years. It is seen in the trailer that these creations, called “Hollow Children”, actually think they are human and it also turns out that a general was one of them and he is swiftly killed.
Not much is known about Binary Domain other than what has been shown in the trailer. Visually it looks good, kind of like a mix between Dead Rising and Dead Island. The trailer features no gameplay. The only other thing to go off is the voice acting, and it was not the best. First off the voices of the people talking sounded separated from the scene, kind of like someone dubbed over it after the fact, and the voices themselves are not that good. The General and President both sound similar to a bad impression of Nixon/Regan and the other characters are not much better.
I do have hope for this game as the premise seems promising. It has been mentioned that you will have control your AI squad using voice control and it will be able to understand six languages. This is not the first game to do this but the concept is an interesting one. As mentioned earlier Bionary Domain is being developed by Yakuza Studios who is being headed by Toshihiro Nagoshi the creator of the Yakuza franchise. It is said to launch February 28th 2012, and I will definitely be keeping my eye on this one. Below is the newest trailer that has been released.
