What can you really say but “WOW”? Batman: The Enemy Within, as a series has been really good overall and Episode 4 takes the cake. As many TellTale games as you might have played, you may never have truly felt like your decisions directly changed a character’s meaningful outcome… until you play this episode. Your decisions may have been tried hard in Episode 2 and they might have stewed the pot in Episode 3, but Episode 4 is so tense in calling into question all that you’ve done with John Doe so far. John is reckless and prone to do just about anything off the rocker, but this series really makes you feel like he is a genuine friend… if played a certain way.
WHAT AILS YOU?
There are two main branches that can start off the episode. Either you gave yourself up or you’ve thrown a friend under the bus to save your hide. Either way, its an intense episode from the start, all the way to the end. Characters like Mr. Freeze and Agent Avesta are given a lot more screen time and development that was sorely missing prior. Mr. Freeze ducks out pretty quick but they’ve made an attempt to rectify a concern some fans have had since Episode 2, and give him more of a role.
There isn’t really any puzzle solving to speak of in Episode 4 but a lot more action and tense scenes, rather than down time. This is good in a lot of ways, even if this Episode could be considered so fast that it might as well be the quickest episode. Still, the setup is definitely there and there is a lot of revelations that can come about… whether you where expecting them or not. It’s going to be interesting to see where Episode 5 takes us, especially considering the branching paths of John Doe.
