Crysis 3 and Pre-Order Bonuses Announced
April 19th, 2012Crytek announced Crysis 3, which claims to be the first blockbuster shooter of 2013 and the premier sandbox shooter on 2013. As with other Crytek games Crysis 3 will run on the CryENGINE which will give Crysis 3 unmatched graphics and dynamic shooter gameplay. Crysis 3 takes the player back to New York which has been enclosed inside a Nanodome which was created by the evil corporation, Cell Corporation. Crytek describes the New York City Liberty Dome as “a veritable urban rainforest teeming with overgrown trees, dense swamplands and raging rivers”. Within said dome are seven different environments, the Seven Wonders. These dangerous environments call for advanced weapons and tactics. The player controlling Prophet will use a bow, an advanced Nanosuit and alien tech in order to become the best hunter on the planet.
Cevat Yerli, CEO of Crytek said “Crysis 3 is a thrilling mix of sandbox gameplay, advanced combat and hi-tech human and alien weaponry that shooter fans will love. Leveraging the latest CryENGINE technology, we’re able to deliver seven unique themes that offer stunning and visually loaded gameplay experiences. We cannot wait until people get their hands on the game.”
Crysis 3 takes place in 2047, where you take control of Prophet who is on a mission to uncover the truth behind Cell Corporation’s building of the Nanodome. The citizens of New York were told that this dome would protect the inhabitants and would get rid of the remaining Ceph forces. When in reality this is just a step in Cell Corporation’s plan for world domination. Alien Ceph are around every corner and humans on the attack, no one is safe from Prophet and his path of revenge.

Sniper Elite V2 Demo Impressions
April 13th, 2012
Sniper Elite V2’s demo went live on Xbox Live Marketplace recently, and I decided to check it out because it is a game that I have literally heard nothing about. Rebellion developed Sniper Elite V2, and their most recent game is Never Dead which you all know how I feel about.
Just from the demo, I can tell you that Sniper Elite V2 is already one million times better than Never Dead, but it still does not seem enjoyable. Since this is a demo there is no story; you’re placed in some WWII town as a sniper and given simple objectives. The gameplay seems like early Splinter Cell in that if you get caught, you are pretty much boned. There are stealth mechanics in play here as you are a sniper and getting your job done without being seen is the number one objective.
Sniper Elite V2 Playthrough
In case of long loading times, click here
The problem is the WWII snipers. The Springfield 1903 in this case are as loud as any other gun. So if you fire once, everyone will know where you are.
There are three different difficulties in this demo which specifically affects the difficulty of the enemies as well as the bullet ballistics. In English, this means harder enemies and more realistic bullet physics. I first played on the middle difficulty, which takes some getting used to. This isn’t Call of Duty. You can’t go for 360 no-scope headshots; you MUST take time and aim as well as take into consideration the bullet drop and wind speed. Also if you line up a shot just right you will get a follow cam that will follow the bullet to the target, sometimes going into an x-ray mode. And that, is pretty freaking awesome.
There is only one level in the game so these conditions didn’t change, but it can be interesting to see what they do with different levels, times of day and weather conditions. Overall, if you like sniping in video games I would suggest you check out this demo. I for one will probably not be playing the full game as I do not like sniping and the mechanics that were presented. This demo felt fun for the 20 minutes I played, but got old pretty fast.

Zen Studios made Pinball FX2 which is a free shell that allows Zen to release virtual pinball table packs, and their latest one is Marvel Pinball: Avenger Chronicles. The pinball table that Zen Studios is giving fans a look at today is the World War Hulk table. The story behind this table is that Hulk has been banished to space, and after this he comes back to Manhattan to get revenge against the group of people who are responsible for getting him banished, The Illuminati. He is also on the path to start a war with the X-Men, Iron Man, The Fantastic Four and Doctor Strange.

Spec Ops: The Line Narrative Trailer
April 6th, 20122K Games and Yager Development have just released a Narrative trailer for Spec Ops The Line. The trailer focuses on Captain Walker as he and his team go to Dubai to find survivors and to learn about what happened to John Conrad. It also shows off a handful of environments most of which are the type of buildings that we have come to expect from FPS, and the others like those buildings, but with different degree of sand damage.
From what was explained in the trailer it seems like a section of the US military has went rouge and Walker’s team is sent to Dubai to handle them. I hope what was revealed was actual gameplay, because if it wasn’t it is a pretty poor excuse for a pre-rendered cut scene. The game graphically does not look great (from what was shown in the trailer), but the story does seem interesting. Spec Ops The Line is said to becoming out June 26th for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

Rock Band Blitz Announced
April 5th, 2012Harmonix had plans to announce their new game at PAX East, but things changed when they got the chance to do it on X-Play. Matthew Nordhaus and Eric Pope, the master of lamb chops, were on X-Play yesterday to announce Rock Band Blitz. Rock Band Blitz is not the traditional Rock Band game we think of, it seems like a mix between a Harmonix oldie, Amplitude and Rock Band Unplugged, a Rock Band game that was exclusive to PSP.
It was announced that Rock Band Blitz will come with 25 songs, which will export into other Rock Band games, and all existing DLC will work with Blitz on launch day. Rock Band Blitz is not played with the plastic instruments I’m sure we all have lying around, but with a standard controller. Rock Band Blitz will be coming to Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network this summer.
These are the songs that have been announced so far.
Blink 182 – Always
Foster the People – Pumped Up Kicks
Great White – Once Bitten, Twice Shy
Quiet Riot – Metal Health
Rick Springfield – Jessie’s Girl
Orcs Must Die! 2 Announced
April 4th, 2012Robot Entertainment has just announced the sequel to the critically acclaimed, Orcs Must Die! The main problem that critics and fans had with Orcs Must Die! was that there was a lack of co-op play; Robot Entertainment has fixed this in Orcs Must Die! 2 and they also announced that Orcs Must Die! 2 will be playable at PAX East.
Orcs Must Die 2 will put the player back into a battle against the titular Orcs, but this time with backup. Robot Entertainment said they have redesigned the spell book which will give players a wider array of options to kill Orcs, and defend themselves and their base. With a new upgrade system players will be able to take their hard earned currency and put it to work for them by upgrading the skills and towers that they use most.
Robot Entertainment’s CEO Patrick Hudson said “In 2011, we implored players to kill the orcs, as many as possible. Yet, only 3.4 billion orcs have been slaughtered to date. “He seems upset with these numbers and because of this his, and the teams, focus has been on adding another orc killing machine. The ending of the first Orcs Must Die! lead right into its sequel and the War Mage finds himself in another battle against hordes of mindless orcs.
Orcs Must Die! 2 will be exclusively available on PC through digital distribution and if you are one of the lucky people who are going to PAX East head over to booth 1172 and kill some orcs with your friend, foe, or complete stranger.
