Is our overall impressions/rating of a new game/objects in fact clouded by our initial excitement of its impending release?
Too often times we hear “Oh my god, this is so awesome.” To only shortly, whether it be days, weeks or months, hear that it isn’t as good as you once thought, that it sucks or “why did I buy this” and so on. So I ask myself why is this? Are we just too pumped up with PR announcements and so hopeful that it is going to be as awesome as it looks?
Maybe we were too excited to actually admit to ourselves, after forking out all that money of course, sit down and give it the full consideration of its true value. Or maybe I am over thinking; maybe our opinion just changes. Maybe as we are constantly growing and changing ourselves, what we liked mere weeks ago has changed. Or maybe because there is always something NEW we want, something NEW coming out, something NEW to get excited about, excitement we once had for that once highly sot after item has just been put on the back burner, to collect dust, and just becomes old.
Old news, out dated, “last week!” And even though we once thought “Oh my god this is so awesome,” something newer, better, more awesome has come out, making it obsolete. Making it… just okay. Not that we are re-categorizing it, or re-rating it, or taking away its “awesome” title, but just moving it to a place where although no longer the awesome must have thing that it once was?
What do you think the reason is for our changed opinions?
